Katka Kasadara - Thamizh Letters Workshop

Katka Kasadara: Learn Thoroughly, Live Wisely

Katka Kasadara is a one-day, beginner-friendly Thamizh letters workshop designed to help adult learners build a strong foundation in reading and writing Thamizh. Whether you're reconnecting with your roots or starting fresh, this workshop will open the door to a deeper cultural and linguistic connection.

Many people feel overwhelmed by the idea of learning the Thamizh script — after all, there are 247 letters! But here’s the good news: once you understand just 30 core letters and how vowels and consonants combine, everything starts to fall into place.

Most learners typically spend several weeks or at least 8–12 regular classes to cover the basics of reading and writing Thamizh letters. You’ll master these essential skills in just one intensive 6-hour session—saving you time and accelerating your progress.

What Will Be Covered:

- Uyir Ezhuthukkal (vowels)

- Mei Ezhuthukkal (consonants)

- Uyirmei Ezhuthukkal (compound letters)

- Sanskrit letters used in Thamizh

- The three ‘la’ sounds (ல, ள, ழ)

- The three ‘na’ sounds (ந, ன, ண)

- The two ‘ra’ sounds (ர, ற)

By the end of the workshop, you’ll be able to confidently recognize and read the core Thamizh letters, understand how they combine to form words, and start reading simple Thamizh sentences on your own. You’ll leave with practical skills and a strong foundation to continue your Thamizh learning journey.

About the Instructor:

I’m Tharani & I hold a B.A. and M.A. in Thamizh literature from Annamalai University Canada Campus. I’m passionate about making learning Thamizh accessible and enjoyable for everyone and have been teaching Adults’ Thamizh Class over the past 7 years on weekday evenings and weekends.

I know how intimidating the script can seem at first, so I focus on breaking it down into simple, logical steps that make it easier to learn. My goal is to help you feel confident, supported, and excited about learning Thamizh —no matter where you're starting from.
